As most of you know I was scheduled to take the DAT this morning. My testing center was in Lynchburg, about 45 minutes away, and my test was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. The test is comprised of several sections: Biology (40 questions), Chemistry (30 questions), Organic Chemistry (30 questions), Perceptual Ability Test (90 questions), Reading Comprehension (50
questions), and Quantitative Reasoning (40 questions). The first 100 questions must be completed in 90 minutes, the next 90 must be completed in 60 minutes, 50 minutes for R.C. and 45 min. for Q.R. Each subsection can receive a perfect score of 30, the national average is 17.
In January I met with the Dean of Admissions at VCU and he informed me that I should aim for a score of a 19. The past six months I have been preparing myself to improve my score in hopes of gaining admission to dental school. This test was very different from what I expected, much more difficult. Here are the results:
Biology-20
Organic Chemistry-18
Gen. Chemistry-17
PAT-20
R.C.-20
Q.R.-17
Science Total-19
Academic Ave.-18
We feel very good about our chances this year and appreciate your prayers and support. My score will be sent to the dental schools we have applied to, Temple, Maryland, VCU, Louisville, and Creighton, in the next two to three weeks and I should be hearing back from them sometime this fall. Mom, thank you so much for the course! It really kept me focused on being prepared. We will keep you updated on our happenings.

Aunt Sonnet would be proud
We finally made it to the Cyrus H. McCormick farm where the very first reaper was invented thus hurling America into the industrial revolution! Sonnet has been telling us we should go and we finally did! Jared was mesmerized by the many modules of the reapers and other farm tools. Anna loved watching the wheel spin at the mill on the farm. We went with a group from church and had a nice little picnic on the premises. It was a lot of fun learning about the mill and the tools used to harvest the wheat. Thanks Aunt Sonnet!
Natural Bridge
The kids and Tiffany went with some friends to The Natural Bridge a few weeks ago. For those that don't know what The Natural Bridge is: it is a bridge made of rock that is taller than Niagra Falls. It was formed thousands of years ago by water. It was very impressive, but not nearly as impressive as the many water snakes and lizards the kids found on the short hike to the Bridge. We had a blast.

Jared's Preschool Graduation
Jared graduated from St. John's Preschool this past Wednesday. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this past year we would walk the two blocks to and from school. His school is two blocks from the local park and three blocks from the Library. Every Friday his class would walk down to the Library for story time and to the park on particularly nice days. His favorite part of Preschool was craft time. He was sad for school to end, but is really looking forward to Kindergarden. His Elementary School had a Kindergarden screening a few weeks ago and he had so much fun meeting the teachers and some of the other kids. The teachers gave him a packet to work on over the summer and he begs for me to let him work on his "homework" every day. He is growing up so fast!

Father and Son Outing
Kevin and Jared loaded up the car and went to the annual Father/Sun camp out. Jared was so excited and being the thoughtful and organized kid he is he had a list of all the things he would need for the trip. He packed his own bag with clothes, balls, coloring books, pillow, blanket, and even his fishing pole. He supervised as I packed the food and loaded the car. As soon as Kevin got home from work they were ready to go. During the night they had a "visitor" (bear) snooping around their tent. After finding nothing interesting in Kevin and Jared's tent the bear found a cooler nearby and enjoyed its contents before leaving the campsite. This of coarse was Jared's highlight of the trip.
